Resin Color Library

Starting to cast resin pen and bottle stopper blanks, I ordered an assortment of dyes and some luster pigments. I then set about learning what amounts of dyes and luster pigments would give me the desired results. Every guide on casting resin spoke in general terms and avoided speecific recipes.

So I blundered through some casts, keeping samples and notes as I did. These are scans of those samples along with the notes, building a recipe book.

I put this here so others could avoid my blunders and use the information to develop their own casting, and to serve as a reference. Just like you might take someone else's kitchen recipe and add more of your favorite spices, these are intended to provide starting points and perhaps shopping lists, not to be definitive answers.

The color samples are just pulls off my block pours, about 4 popsicle stick scoops into a 1.375x2" mold from MisterArt. I then scanned them on my scanner at 300dpi to create these images. One problem I'm looking for ways to address is that this doesn't do much to show how opaque a sample is.

Just like your mother always collected recipes for her kitchen, I'm also looking for more. They don't need to be the detailed samples I collect- a picture of a blank and a list of ingredients (preferably with at least approximate amounts) is all you need. Kind of like those scraps of paper with barely legible handwriting in my mother's recipe box.
